Going on a Movie Date Without Feeling AWKWARD

Heya playa is there someone that you like or someone that you’re going out with that you find incredibly difficult to talk to just because you feel too nervous about it? Well, I was asked this question by IceZy, he said “Me and my girlfriend can’t talk to each other right now, we want to go to the cinema, is this going to help?”. So, I’m going to answer IceZy’s question, is spending more time with your girlfriend a good way to connect with them?

I’ll give you my opinion after this. THIS IS THE JOSH SPEAKS, YOU’RE WATCHING THE JOSH SPEAKS. So in short the answer is obviously yes, spending more time with someone will definitely help you develop a deeper connection with them but he wants to specifically go to the movies with her, is that going to help them connect better? Well, the movies is something that I’ve thought about a lot. On one end, the movies are a great date idea.

You get to spend a few hours with that person, you have something immediately to talk about, you can talk about the movie as soon as it ends and you can get food before or afterwards to extend your hangout time. On the other end, the movies are a horrible date idea. You’re sitting in silence, in the dark for about two hours with this person you barely know. Talk about awkward… So in choosing the movies as a good or bad date idea, I kind of leave that up to you, but the other piece of this question is that he’s struggling to talk with her right now and what‘s important to remember here is just because you spend a lot of time around someone, it doesn’t mean you’re actually building that connection.

Think about your classmates, you spend multiple hours a week sitting around them, are you close with every single one of them? So the key here is not just spending time but spending quality time with that other person, I know for me before I started dating my first girlfriend, we did go on a date together to the movies. I remember asking her to go with me and she was all for it, so when we got to the theater we kind of awkwardly made our way in, sat next to each other in silence for the whole two hours and talked after the movie. For me, I saw that movie date as a success, we both felt like we spent quality time together even though we didn’t interact as much.

So to overall answer your question IceZy, yes I do think going to the movies would be a better way for you two to connect, however I think you need to look deeper than just spending time around your girlfriend, you need to talk to her more. I know you may be nervous, I know it’s scary but trust me, that’s going to really be the differentiating factor as to whether or not the two of you get close or not. What do you think though, are the movies a good date to bring someone on if you don’t really know them that well? Leave your comments below and we’ll talk about it.
